The WNYYMBL Girls Basketball season came down to two teams, evenly matched. Threes on both sides, free throws made, and a tight defense leading to a ton of backcourt violations made this a classic nail biter. After trailing the entire game Team Shooting Stars emerged to capture the WNYYMBL Girls League 2020 championship! Congrats to the staff and players of the Buffalo Herricanes and Rochester Sparkle. You all made this an exciting and fun Summer 2020.

As we know children love to play. And Islam does not prevent children from that. Yet most Muslim organizations and communities have not included youth recreation into their budgets, leaving our youth searching far and wide for positive outlets…until now!
WNYYMBL, started right here in Western NY is a federally approved nonprofit youth development organization that provides recreational and full time academic outlets for youth who are normally marginalized and left out
We have provided the traveling sport team experience to over 100 youth from:

This year alone we gave over $6,000 worth of free sport and academic supplies to our youth members and others. It has been two weekends since our 2nd Annual IRUSA Day of Dignity here in Buffalo, NY. And although the weather prevented a larger physical showing to the event than we wanted, the “digital showing” has been more than we could have dreamed of.
First there was WGRZ local channel 2 news:
Then Spectrum News, All Evening news mind you. Which meant we were shown over and over and over that night (9/2/18) until the next morning.
Then the following morning, Labor Day, we found ourselves not only in the paper but given the entire Picture Page Feature in the Local News section.
It was beautiful. But it didn’t stop there. Most recently we discovered that our Day of Dignity out of all the Day of Dignitys held across America had been selected to be on IRUSA’s homepage.
We pray that our efforts are accepted and etched into our book of good deeds and we thank everyone for their help and support.

WNYYMBL 19+ LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
We have a winner! After a grueling tiebreaker battle Team Panthers emerged to face the team that wanted to avenge a regular season loss, Team LA.
Team Madania meanwhile went on to the 3rd place game versus Team We Rise. Team We Rise forfeited the 3rd place game and Team Madania became the first winners in WNYYMBL 19+ League history without even having to lace up!
Teams LA and Panthers were bracing for a seismic clash. The game was physical and nervousness kept field goal percentages low on both sides. Ultimately, victory belonged to the best free throw shooters and that was Team LA. Congratulations to all the participating teams for being a part of WNYYMBL history.

You may recall the highly anticipated arrival of IRUSA’s Day of Dignity to Buffalo, NY in conjunction with WNYYMBL and other organizations. Well it after being rained out on our original date, the sun, the WNYYMBL staff, members and volunteers all came out to hold Buffalo’s very first Day of Dignity.
We didn’t know what to expect. How many would come? What races? What religions? We just wanted to serve those in need, and those not too proud to accept help from us. The result was an amazing experience. We served any and all who showed up on that warm day. Hot food, kitchen utensils, cabinet food, toiletries, school kits, clothes, hygiene kits and more were given out by the hundreds.

I am so moved because our group of first year WNYYMBL academic tutoring students have completed the educational requirements of the program today. These elementary, middle school and high school students have pursued their education through our unique low student to teacher ratio tutoring system since September 2016.
And look at where we are now…June 2017! We at WNYYMBL want to congratulate these young pioneer students and thank their parents for trusting these students to our responsibility. We are happy to say that there was growth and progress all-around for each individual student.

This past weekend’s summer youth clinic was phenomenal in so many ways for WNYYMBL. To start things off all the participants were treated to the shahaadah being taken by a 15 year old 6’3″ basketball player for Team Rashideen out of Buffalo.
Jeremiah, center above, whose parents are from Sudan said, “If my mom supports me I’m fine.” He added why he thinks the choice to embrace Islam is a good one, “(Sometimes) I get into trouble with the group I’m with so this will be good for me.”
Then there was the introduction of the league’s history, purpose and mission by the WNYYMBL executive director Shaheed Ali. “This year our commitment to the mission statement will be tested with the variety of youth we have this year.” Ali said. “But we’re up for the challenge.”
After that our special guest trainer Coach Shake took command of the group and treated our clinic participants to some of the best training money could buy.
We close off the summer 2016 youth clinic series thanking the participants, their parents, Masjid Noor and the Islamic Center of Rochester for their facilities, donors and coaches.

The League’s 1st Annual Summer Clinic in Amherst NY went very well. Several coaches and their squads came out and helped to introduce the Masjid Noor community to the camraderie, courtesy and competition that exist in our league. There were skill drills, preseason scrimmages, prize giveaways, short speeches, snacks, lunch and congregational prayer as well. Videos and a photo mosaic can be found below. All praise is for Allah! I hope everyone is well. Here’s what’s new:
August is still tournament month, but here are some changes:
*ISNF’s 1st annual tournament was postponed from 8/15 to 8/16 (today) at 11am.
*The ISNF basketball tournament is no longer just for high school and college but now more of an 18 and up tournament due to insufficient youth response, according to a source close to the organizing committee. Team tryouts will be held for a Masjid Noor youth team for grades 5 and up.
* The Eid Tournament hosted by Jami Buffalo has changed locations due to another tournament taking place at the same site. The new Jami tournament location is at Wende Park in Buffalo, at the corner of Broadway and Spring.
* Lastly, if there are any wnyymbl youth members who would like to play in a youth tournament, the 8/29 Masten Park tournament is open to all youth. PLEASE let me know if you are interested to play as soon as possible. Call Coach Ali at 716-400-0557.
