This site is the home of WNYYMBL. Thank you for visiting. Around 2013, WNYYMBL was initially an attempt to have the marginalized Muslim youth basketball players in WNY find a league of their own to play in. Since then we have grown to welcome boys and girls, Muslim and non-Muslim, fully able and disabled to participate in our organized program. Players are encouraged to be scholar athletes. Therefore our mission statement reads:
“To use the platform of organized sports activity to encourage our youth
to become more responsible, more disciplined and more positive members of
society…strong in faith, character and physical well-being.”
We play from November to March, with a playoffs tournament set in the final month of the season. Our games are featured online on our YouTube channel. Simply search for WNYYMBL. In 2017, we added the 19+ league to give our boys who have aged out a chance to continue to play in 3v3 competitive basketball. And since 2020, through the pandemic, we gave our girls their very own league. In the process we have completed our commitment to more sectors of the community than ever. But we’re not done!
An exciting piece towards accomplishing our mission is the academic initiative and mentoring program or A.I.M. We are in the process of being granted the opportunity by multiple school districts the opportunity to mentor our student athletes in their schools as well as provide tutoring assistance when needed. This will be a huge step in making sure our youth stay on the right track academically as well as behaviorally.
To pay for operational costs, supplies, equipment, gym rentals, referee fees and other expenses we have an all-volunteer head coaching corps, charge students a small fee (only $50 for the season) and request donations. WNYYMBL is a 501 (C)(3) not-for-profit organization. Our tax id number is available upon request.
